The Milkmaid

The Milkmaid is (was) a short film about an old woman who every day comes to the city of Lodz from a village some 5 miles away. She arrives by a horse drawn wagon and sells fresh milk to the urbanites. The Milkmaid is a gnarled tiny woman who can barely control her huge, nervous horse. This was the first film Jan made using a borrowed 8mm camera and he developed by hand the reversible stock and edited it. Unfortunately frequent showings to family and friends destroyed the film beyond repair, but a few photos still remain, and of course lots of memories.
